RESEARCH PROJECTS:
-How Network Coding Benefit TCP in a Real Wireless Mesh Network
09/2006-Now
Implement network coding modular into Mesh Connectivity Layer toolkit to deploy network codign
in a real Windows XP based wireless mesh network. Since network coding reduces the number of transmissions, it decreases the TCP loss
rate. However, network coding may increases the round trip time. TCP througput are sensensitive to both loss and RTT. Thus, there must
be an optimal setting for network coding to maximize the coding benefit.
changing existing TCP scheme.
-Application Layer TCP Relay for Wireless Mesh Network
09/2005-09/2006
Deploy a test bed of multi-hop wireless mesh network within two
Engineering Buildings using Microsoft Mesh Connectivity Layer. Design and
analyze TCP relay over wireless mesh network. TCP relay breaks down a long haul
TCP connection to several small short loops to improve TCP performance without
changing existing TCP scheme.
-Multi-Channel Multi-Sector Directional Antennas WLAN,
09/2004¨C09/2005
Design a TDMA based MAC to utilize multi-channel and multi-sector
direction antennas to provide high bandwidth wireless LAN for enterprises.
Propose a Lagrangian Relaxation based scheduling algorithm to provide good
sub-optimal solutions quickly.
-Multi-Channel 802.11 Wireless LAN, 09/2004-03/2005
Design a TDMA based MAC to utilize multiple non-overlapping 802.11a
PHY channels to provide high bandwidth enterprise/home Wi-Fi networks. Design a Lagrangian Relaxation based channel time scheduling
algorithm to provide good sub-optimal solutions quickly.
esign for 802.15.3c alternate PHY layer
-Exploiting IPID Field in IP Header for Network Measurement,
07/2003- 09/2004
Use active and passive techniques to retrieve IPID field of IP packets
to measure network path and end-system characteristics, including
(a) amount of internal traffic generated by a server,
(b) number of servers in a large scale, load-balanced server complex and
(c) difference between one-way delays of two machines to a target
computer.
(This was a cooperating project with network research group at
Computer Science Dep. of U. Mass. Amherst)
-Web-based Market Simulation for Several Power Market Models,
01/2001- 07/2002
Develop a computer information system to simulate several power market
models, such as PX, PJM and Australia market. The system can be used by
authority bureaus to compare different market models. It also can be used to
simulate the consumer feedback and stability of new policies and/or rules.
-Price and Load Forecasting Models for Power Market,
9/1999-10/2000
Develop neural network models and train the models with historical
data. Use the trained model to forecast future price and system load. Provide
different models for weekend, weekday, daytime and night with different load
characteristics.
-B2B e-Commerce System at Chinese Univ. of Hong Kong,
11/2000-01/2001
Participated in developing a web-based B2B e-Commerce system to
provide e-transactions within/between enterprises.
